The Racing Action Has Begun at the Bullring!

We saw many smiling faces at the Bullring last night. My guess is that we are all more than excited for this racing season to be starting! Mother Nature gave us the thumbs up and provided us with excellent weather, which resulted in the track being in fantastic shape and holding that way through the end of the night. All of our drivers showed some incredible door to door racing action. Some were even pushing 3 wide!

Our Late Model division saw the #30 of Ryan King take the checkered flag. The #11 machine of Barry Goodman came in a close 2nd, and the #Y3 of Jimmy York slid into 3rd. Mikey Roberts, who is driving the #27, blew an engine a couple laps before the checkered fell, which resulted in a 4th place finish, and the #71 of Chuck Freels pulled into the pit area after the first couple of laps, coming in 5th.

The Super Street division’s #444 of Chuck Heling took the checkered flag. The #333 of Aaron Duncan was tailing him, coming in 2nd. Charlie Godsey in the #4 machine reeled in a 3rd place finish. The T2 of Daniel Raimondi pulled into the pit area near the end of the race, ending up with a 4th place finish, and the #24 machine of Ronnie Shelton looked to be having some issues with his machine in the middle of the race and was taken into the pit area, resulting in 5th place.

The Pony Stock Division’s winner was the #5 of Bo Allison. Dustin Benton in the #34 wasn’t giving him any room for error, coming in 2nd. The #18 of Ronnie Blair pulled into the pit area with some problems on his machine, resulting in a 3rd place finish. The #18 of William Tallent was pulled into the pits after what appeared to be a busted radiator, coming in 4th, and Doug Guider in the #7 machine pulled in early, rounding out in 5th.

Our Front Wheel Drive Division welcomed the #7 of Daniel Sizemore to the win. The #25 of David Singleton followed in 2nd, after making the pass on Nick Adams in the #92 machine coming to the checkered flag, who finished 3rd. Nathan Adams, the brother of Nick Adams, in the #A93 came in 4th. Kevin Crane in the #52 finished 5th, and our mystery driver, the #41, was taken into the pit area after some problems with his machine, resulting in a 6th place finish.

During intermission, we asked the fans 3 questions. The fan who answered the question correctly 1st received 2 grandstand admissions for Friday, April 12, 2013. Here are our winners and their questions:

Ruben Mayfield takes home Spring City’s biggest prize

Ruben Mayfield has experienced a great deal of success this season at the Spring City Raceway but on Friday night he scored his most lucrative win of the season on the 1/4 mile clay oval. The veteran driver earned $1,000 by besting fifteen other Limited Late Model drivers on the east Tennessee track.

Mayfield began the night by setting fast time in qualifying with a lap of 11.792 seconds. The top-6 drivers in time trials earned a spot in a special dash race that would pay the winner $50 but also set the starting lineup for the feature. Joining Mayfield in that event would be Ross White, Ryan King, Brian Hooks, Anthony White and Jason Manley.

Ross White got the early jump in that short dash and went on to win with Mayfield, Hooks, King and Anthony White following. Manley broke a power steering belt on his machine in that race and was forced to retire for the evening.

Travis Armes and Trent Mullinax won the two heat races used to set the rest of the starting lineup for the feature event.

At the drop of the green flag for the 30 lap main event, Ross White went to the early lead with Mayfield dogging him at every turn around the tight track known as ‘The Bullring’. Finally, Mayfield got inside of White and took the lead going into turn three on the sixth lap. From that point on, the #00 car would command the race despite a number of cautions that would bunch the field behind the race leader.

The most significant of those yellow flags came on lap 11 when Ryan King made a move inside of Ross White for 3rd place. The two cars came together in turn three and King’s machine went up over the nose of White’s car. At the same time, Mullinax came onto the scene and drove under King’s prone racer. The resulting impact sent King rolling over with his car coming to rest on its top.

King and all other drivers were uninjured.

With the field reduced Mayfield continued to assert his dominance, sometimes building leads of up to a full straighaway. Even with additional cautions to allow the competition to close up to his rear spoiler, the #00 was never seriously challenged for the top spot in the second half of the race.

At the finish it was Ruben Mayfield, Brian Hooks, Trent Mullinax, Travis Armes, Jim Bolen, Joey Standridge, Kelvin White and Herman Radke III.

In other action, Allen Henderson beat out Clay Henderson in the Pony Stocks while Nathan Adams was victorious in the Front Wheel Drive class. John Stout won in Mod Lites.

Jimmy York won over Todd Poole in the Modified Street division and Chuck Heling came home the winner ahead of Aaron Duncan in the Super Streets.

September 21st:
On September 21st we will have our Crowning of Champions night. All of our top 3 points champions are invited to join us for a night of celebration. All top 3 drivers will receive trophies if they’re in attendance, and all drivers will be brought onto the frontstretch to receive their trophies in front of the fans in the house. So make your plans and we’ll see you at The Bullring on September 21st!

September 28th:
Our big Limited Late Model race will be on September 28th. It’ll be 30 laps, $1,000 to win.
Thanks to Mitch Gann at Ujunkdit.com as they’ve put up $1,000. Also thanks to Brian King Roofing who has put up $500. In addition, Phantom Racing Engines (Jr Weisgarber) has put up $100 for fast qualifier, and he is also giving a barrel of fuel to one lucky driver, drawn by a fan.
